Éternité, the period-panties

Hello everyone!

Today, I’ll show you something little different from what I usually do. Be reassured, we still remain in the world of lingerie 😉

You may have noticed that I’m quite concerned ecology (hence the constitution of the Malicieuses boxes for example). That’s why, Eternity is more than a pattern for me, it’s commitment, a way of doing my small part.

Whether you want to protect yourself, your daughters or your even granddaughters by stopping using sanitary pads or tampons, or because of their doubtful compositions (if you don’t know what I mean, here are some links: there or there), whether you want to make a gesture for the planet by avoiding more non-recyclable waste : Eternity was designed for you!

Eternity is a period-proof underwear, or hygienic underwear, or menstrual panties. It can also be used for minor bladder weakness.

Eternity is a very easy and fast to sew pattern.

Its design requires no notions apart from elastics and an article is available to help you to choose the right fabrics.

The basic version

This version is very simple. Efficient and quick to sew, it will be perfect for a first approach to the pattern.

The Eternity menstrual panties are designed to be as “classic” as possible: for example, the width of the sides is very standard.

Of course, the gusset is different from an everyday panties. It is longer so that it can absorb the flow.

It’s never easy to take a picture of a black panties, so I forced the flash so that you can see the rounded font seam of the gusset :

The panties’s back fit the back closely, as you can see:

Second variant

While testing the pattern, a second variant of Eternity emerged: this variant has a different construction, and is designed for nights.

If you are a fan of the “Cup” (if you are not familiar with it, this article is for you: the menstrual cup), you are not without knowing that the Cup can’t be worn all night long because it would not be emptied and cleaned for too long.

That’s why the second variant of Eternity has been designed especially for this purpose.

This variant is fully lined and has NO seams visible from the outside.

For each variant, an adaptation sheet explain how to modify the waist’s height.

You’ll also find all the explanations to go for a more or less high-cut panties front.

This variant make it easy to use lace (which I lined with flesh-coloured jersey). With no apparent seams, the lace can display its prettiness without hinderance.

For this variant, the gusset with the technical fabrics is longer than that of the basic version.

In both versions, the thigh openings are finished with fold-over elastic, which makes it easy to accommodate the gusset’s multiple layers of fabrics.

What the download folder contains:

Étoffe Malicieuse is here to guide you as closely as possible to your expectations.

That why, the folder you will download contains several documents:

• An interactive instructions booklet illustrated with numerous clear diagrams (to find out more, click HERE)

• The pattern in A4/US letter format that you can print directly at home.

The pattern is given with AND without seam allowances. Thanks to the layer system, you can choose!
If you choose to print the pattern without seam allowances, everything is carefully explained in the booklet to add the seam allowances according to the finishes techniques you want to use.

Please note: for lingerie, very few sheets are required. So don’t be afraid to cut and assemble the pattern: it will be very quick to do!

The size lines are made up of different colours, but also different line styles, so you can print in black and white without any worries!

The patterns are layered which allow you to choose which sizes you want to print.

• A “printing the pattern” helper

This part will tell you how to use the layers, how to set up your printer, which pages to print according to the chosen variant…

• A “Stitches and settings” section

This part of the explanations will detail the different stitches used in lingerie sewing.

As the construction progresses, you will also find the small tag giving you indications on which stitch to use.

• A “Fabric elasticity” method sheet

It’s not always easy to find your way around stretchy fabrics… with this document, you will be able to easily classify your fabrics and find out which one is the most suitable for sewing Éternité.

Sewing level

Contrary to popular belief, all you need is a simple sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch.

The construction instructions have been written as clearly as possible. They will guide you step by step with the help of numerous clear diagrams to enable even total beginners to sew their panties.

Tested !

The pattern has been tested, the explanations have been read and reread…

For the absorbent part, three testers were kind enough to test the panties during that fateful week of the month, prior to its release.
