Agrafe, the custom hook and eyes pattern [Presentation article]

Hello everyone!

Today, I’d like to introduce you to a special pattern.

The main idea is to be able to sew your own bra hook and eye, using fabric scraps.

Let me be honest with you: at first, I thought I would offer you a small tutorial, free of charge, in all simplicity.

But that wasn’t counting the time this little piece was going to take me.
Honestly, I didn’t think I’d have to work so hard to get what I wanted!
It may seem simple at first, but I assure you that to get a nice finish, I had to turn the problem upside down.

In any case, the result is really up to my expectations. Thanks to a specific and well thought out construction, you will be able to sew your own hook and eye!

You may ask, “But why sew his hook and eye?”

There are several answers to this question. Obviously, the love of “handmade”, go to the end of the process by sewing your bra ENTIRELY!

But not only! This pattern is especially useful when you can’t find a hook and eye in the same color as the rest of the bra.

When I was offering lingerie supplies for sale, I quickly identified the problem of getting all the supplies in the same color.

Suppliers are not the same for elastics, bra casing, hook and eyes, or linings.

It is therefore very difficult to find a set of supplies in the shops to sew a uniform set of lingerie, especially for the hook and eye.

The good news is that now you can sew your hook and eye into the fabric of your bra.
The hook and eye then becomes an extension of the back band of the bra, and I find that this adds refinement:

The hook and eye pattern contains three width options:

Then you can choose if you want an adjustable hook and eye (with several rows of “eyes”) …

… or not adjustable (with only one row of eyes) :

If you want to sew your own hook and eye, you might as well go all the way: you will also have the step-by-step instructions to draft the pattern yourself in order to obtain a hook and eye with specific dimensions and unique to you.

This will be useful for a long-line bra for example, but not only… like here on the sides of a panty (I’ll tell you about it soon, I promise! )

You will notice that the eyes rest on a fabric part: all this brings comfort to the wearer, but also exceptional finishes!

In the explanations, you will also find all the steps to sew a lace hook and eye. Indeed, lace being transparent and more fragile, a specific method was needed!

Sewing a hook and eye does not necessarily require a lot of time, but you must be meticulous.

For the supplies, I detail (as usual!) everything in the explanations file.

To buy hooks and eyes, you can find some at Mamzelle Fourmi, for example, who ordered some specifically for the release of this pattern. Thanks a lot to Sandra !

I hope you like this little pattern and that you will enjoy sewing more and more refined underwear.
I let you discover the pattern if you feel like it:
